Justina Taft Mattos: Director

Justina Taft Mattos is a Professor of Performing Arts at the University of Hawaii at Hilo, an award-winning  Director of both Local theatre of Hawai’i, Hawaiian language theater, and co-founder (with Jackie Pualani) of the Hawaiian language theater festival, Hawaii Island.

Kepano Richter: Writer / Projection Designer / Video Editor / Moore

Kepano (Stephen) Richter is a former United States Marine, a novelist, award winning playwright, and filmmaker. He is currently a PhD. Candidate at the University of California at Santa Cruz.   bio

Braden Savage: Stage Manager, Assistant Director, Media Officer

Braden Savage is an English major at UH Hilo, and is starting his second year as the editor-in-chief of UH Hilo’s art and literary magazine, Kanilehua.

Jackie Pualani Johnson: Auntie Rosie / Costume Design

Jackie Pualani Johnson is a retired UHH drama professor who has loved sewing since she was a 4-year-old tyke in her native Hilo. She has been fascinated by the energy and originality Kepano Richter and Justina Mattos bring to establishing a new process,  à la pandemic, raising Shakespeare’s storied Moor to new, island-relevant heights.  Pualani sends aloha to kona mau mo’opuna, who will carry the theatre torch in future endeavors.

Joanne Pocsidio: Captain Cassiopeia Martinez (Cassio)

Joanne Pocsidio is profoundly grateful to be a part of the Hilo performing arts community. She has been onstage and on video in several community productions over the past four years. Most recently she played Rod Reego in “Oh, Hello!”, a teen adaptation of Shakespeare’s Othello. She thanks the cast and crew of “Moore” for this memorable experience.

Joshua Timmons: Master Chief Bianca, Trumpet Player

Joshua Timmons is a Performing Arts graduate from UH Hilo. He is a local musician who plays trumpet and sings in multiple Hawai’i-based bands including Kahulanui and Beyond Paradise. He was also vocal director for the UH Hilo’s production of Rent and performed as Roger

Steve Peyton: General Brabantio and Commandant of the Marine Corps

Hal Glatzer: Colonel Sanders USMC

Hal Glatzer is seen more often in the wings than on stage, as a producer
and director. But he’s a performer too, singing and playing the Great
American Songbook from Broadway and Tin Pan Alley. And Hal is also a
published author of historical novels and murder mysteries. (website)

Kekai Mattos: Sergeant Emiliano

Kekai Mattos got his start in theatre at 4 years old with Hilo Community Players’ Shakespeare-in-the-Park. Since then, he has performed in assorted stage and video productions for Volcano Art Center, Kamehameha Schools, and UH Hilo, as well as modeling for local brands such as Kākou Apparel, Farmer’s Market Hawaii, Broken Hardened, Good Earth Sandals, and others.

Landon Ballesteros: Special Agent Ogimachi, Yakuza Boss

Landon Ballesteros is a 2018 graduate of UH Hilo’s Performing Arts program. He is excited to appear in Moore after participating in the original table reading last November. It is always an honor to bring life to Asian/Pacific Island (API) stories, so mahalo nui e Kepano for this creation!

Lopaka Inciong: Uncle Billy, Guitar, and singing

Lopaka Inciong is a UH-Hilo Alum receiving a B.A. in marine science. This will be the first play that I have been in.  Musical background mainly kanikapila with family and friends at parties or get togethers. Husband and father of five wonderful boys. Enjoys going to the beach with ohana fishing and swimming.

Zoi Nakamura: Choreographer

Zoi Nakamura is a student at the University of Hawaii at Hilo majoring in English, minoring in Performing Arts, and seeking a certificate in Educational Studies. She has been studying dance for over 16 years, choreographed for numerous productions at Island Dance Academy and UHH, and is currently a dance instructor specializing in the genres of ballet, tap, and jazz. 

Kanikaio Inciong: Japanese Police Officer, Makalii (Male Hula)

Kanikaio Inciong is a student at Kamehameha High School at Keaau.  This will be his first play with UH-Hilo, and he has done some acting in school plays in the past.  He played the character Zeke Baylor for his middle school play “High School Musical”.  He enjoys playing baseball and watching movies.

Ray Ryan: POTUS, Cletus

Ray Ryan….. portraying Cletus and POTUS…..Ray is a longtime stage actor with over 40 roles under his belt and has appeared in 4 films as well. He loves playing villains the most, as thus was very excited at the challenge of playing POTUS!

Jon Sakurai-Horita: General Yoo and Dignitary

Jon grew up in Hilo but spent the majority of his life (40+ years) on the mainland.   He returned to Hilo in 2016 and began working as the Career Advisor at UH Hilo.   In 2018, he was fortunate to be cast as Wally Fukuda in Aloha Las Vegas, his first theatrical production.  That was followed by Aldagyre in Ignorance is Bliss and Vincent Garcia in The Worse Filipino in the World.

Ricky Alvarez: “Hurt” song

Ricky Alvarez–born and raised in Hilo–is a musician, videographer, writer, award-winning graphics artist, and pad thai enthusiast.  An alumna of UH Hilo, he is delighted to support Hilo’s theatre scene wherever possible.

Emily Peavy: Cinematographer

Emily Peavy is an astronomy educator who loves to work on creative projects. Working on this production opened her eyes to the unique art of film and the different ways to frame a scene to tell a story.
